SAN DIEGO -- A homeless man sleeping under a freeway overpass in Mission Valley was kicked and hit in the head with an empty bottle Friday morning by someone attempting to steal from him, police said.
The 60-year-old victim awoke around 5 a.m. to the suspect rifling through his things, which were in a box near a pedestrian walkway in the 7400 block of Hazard Center Drive near state Route 163, San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick. The victim was kicked when he told the man to stop.
Apparently the suspect did not find what he was looking for. He struck the victim with an empty bottle. Battrick said the victim suffered a non-life-threatening head wound and was taken to a hospital to be treated.
Police described the suspect as a white man with short hair and tanned skin. He was wearing boots and shorts.
