SAN DIEGO -- A transgender San Diego police officer who helped organize the city's Transgender Day of Awareness -- and was turned away when she showed up in her uniform -- is now receiving an apology.
Christine Garcia helped plan last week's event at the San Diego LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest and was also a member of a police security detail. She was told her uniform could upset others and was asked to leave.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, once leaders of the community center learned what had happened, they issued an apology to Officer Garcia, and to the city's police chief.
