TIERRASANTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A grateful dog owner is thanking the neighbors that saved his dog's life.

On Tuesday morning, Rico Willliams' wife watched as a coyote snatched Chi Chi, a 6-year-old Shih Tzu, while the dog was going to the bathroom in the backyard of their home on Corte Playa Encino.

Williams gave chase but the coyote disappeared.

Minutes later, about 20 homes away, a woman walking an Irish Setter saw the coyote and started yelling, causing the coyote to drop the dog. When the coyote tried to go back for her, the woman and her dog blocked it, giving another neighbor time to scoop up the dog and head for the veterinarian.

"I can't thank them enough.  I can't say enough about the community ... All I can say is this is one of God's little miracles," said Williams.

Chi Chi suffered about 12 puncture wounds but will survive.
