(KGTV) - The state DMV is reminding drivers of three new laws going into effect this weekend on California's roads.
The three laws will begin being enforced on Sunday, July 1, though may not directly apply to all of the state's drivers.
The first is SB 19, which applies to private, not-for-hire passenger carriers, such as church buses and employee shuttles. the bill transfer regulatory authority over these carriers from the California Public Utilities Commission to the DMV.

Second, SB 20 is going into effect, which concerns children on buses. This law requires that passengers between the ages of 8 and 15 on a bus equipped with seat belts to be properly restrained, either using a seatbelt or a federally-approved restraint. If violated, offenders can face a fine.
The last law is AB 2687, which deals with driving under the influence in passenger for hire vehicles, such as Uber or Lyft. The law prohibits drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.04 or higher from transporting passengers. This lowers the legal limit, 0.08 BAC, to the same as commercial drivers in California. If convicted of a violation, the DMV can suspend a driver's license.
