Authorities say three children have died in a house fire in eastern Wisconsin after they were left home alone.

Officials say a fourth child, a 9-year-old girl, escaped the burning home in Sheboygan Falls on Tuesday night and alerted neighbors, who called 911.

Sheboygan Falls Public Safety Director Steven Riffel says an 11-year-old child awoke the 9-year-old. He says the older child then tried to save two others, aged 7 and 10.

Firefighters pulled them from the burning building. Officials said all three died at hospitals.

Riffel says the parents were not home and authorities are investigating reports that they were at a bible study group.

He says smoke alarms were working. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Sheboygan Falls is about 55 miles north of Wisconsin.
