EL CAJON -- Family and friends of a young man who died at age 18 after his second battle with cancer will gather this afternoon to honor and remember him.

A memorial was held for Ryan Wilcox, who was a student at Grossmont High, Wednesday afternoon in El Cajon. We streamed it live on our Facebook page - you can watch the entire service here.

Wilcox fought for his life since he was a toddler. He had a brain tumor at age three and was later diagnosed with leukemia, a side effect from chemotherapy he had received. He died earlier this month.

Just a few months before his death, Wilcox received the surprise of a lifetime when three of Hollywood's biggest stars showed up on his doorstep -- Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, Robert Downey Jr., who plays Ironman, and Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Ironman's girlfriend, Pepper.

Wilcox is a huge fan of The Avengers and Gwyneth Paltrow heard about his story on social media. She contacted his family and set up the surprise visit, bringing along a couple of her celebrity superhero friends.
