ENCINITAS, Calif. - A man possibly armed with a gun holed up in a Cardiff-area apartment Wednesday, prompting a law enforcement standoff that ended with the man's surrender about an hour later.
The man refused to immediately surrender to deputies who tried to detain him at the residential complex in the 2300 block of Carol View Drive in the late afternoon, according to sheriff's officials.
A SWAT team was called in to take up positions in the area and prepare to forcibly enter the residence if necessary.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the suspect exited the apartment and was taken into custody. His name and details on why he was being sought in the first place were not immediately available.
