DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) -- An East County woman says she felt “total panic” as an angry swarm of wasps sent her racing toward her home.

Marnie Webster was raking under her home in Descanso on Friday when she felt a sting under her armpit.  In the next 20 seconds, she had five more stings on her face and her head.

“I kept trying to get them out of my hair and started screaming and running up the stairs and into the home,” she said.

Turns out wasps have been nesting inside a tree stump near the home. Winter rains have brought more blooms, nectar and insects to her home - food sources for wasps.

A local wasp removal company told 10News wasp calls have increased about 15% this year.
