SAN DIEGO – Police are looking for an SUV that smashed through the front door of a 7-Eleven in East Village late Monday night, trapping two people inside the store.

The crash occurred at around 11:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Market Street. A witness told 10News the SUV was making an illegal U-turn near 12th Avenue and Market Street when it crashed through the door. The driver then pulled out and drove away, leaving a clerk and customer trapped behind broken glass. Neither was hurt.

One of the trapped people, Judah Caviness, passed the time by eating pizza and drinking a Big Gulp while San Diego Fire-Rescue crews worked to clear the entrance so they could walk out.

"I was snacking to keep my nerves down... It wasn't that bad," Caviness said.

It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to clear enough debris so they could exit the store.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored Ford Explorer with brown panels. No description of the driver was released.

The 7-Eleven will remain closed indefinitely until its front doors are repaired.
