EL CAJON – A woman remarkably walked away without a scratch after she lost control of her SUV and smashed through a light pole, sidewalk barricade and tree before flipping over in an El Cajon street early Thursday morning.

Just before 3:30 a.m., the driver was heading west on Madison Avenue, approaching the intersection with Chambers Street. The road curves to the left, but the vehicle kept moving straight and crashed, according to El Cajon police.

The woman got out of the SUV on her own and was not hurt, police said. She was not taken to a hospital.

Officers said the woman was not speeding or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was also wearing her seatbelt. The driver’s side airbag was deployed during the crash. Police did not disclose if she would be cited.

El Cajon city workers inspected the light pole and patched it up with some duct tape. They were going to conduct more permanent repairs later in the day.
