SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A driver was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Little Italy Thursday night that left a pedestrian dead.

San Diego police said a man in his 50s was in a crosswalk on Pacific Highway at West Laurel Street in Little Italy when he was hit by a speeding SUV at about 11:20 p.m.

Police have arrested David Dominguez Friday morning and expected him to be booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, DUI and other charges, according to SDPD Officer Tony Martinez.

The unidentified man was declared dead at the scene.

Tammie Ransom, who witnessed the crash, told 10News, "It seems like he didn't care. He didn't pause or stop to see if anybody was OK. He just completely hit him and that was it. He flipped over and he seemed lifeless. It didn't seem like he was going to make it."

According to police, a white Jeep SUV was seen driving westbound on Laurel Street after the crash, and then continued onto North Harbor Drive.

Using information gathered at the scene, police tracked the SUV to a home in the Encanto area.

Officers questioned Dominguez, administered a DUI test and then arrested him. No further details on what led to the arrest were immediately given.
