CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The discovery of several suspicious-looking bottles near a stretch of Chula Vista trolley tracks Thursday prompted trolley delays in the area through the afternoon while authorities investigated.
A passerby reported spotting the containers, which appeared to have duct tape wrapped around them, near the intersection of J Street and Interstate 5 in Chula Vista at about 1:15 p.m., according to police. A bomb squad was dispatched to assess the situation, Chula Vista Police Department Lt. Buddy Magor said.
Metropolitan Transit Service officials halted their light rail runs through the area and sent in buses to serve affected customers pending completion of the investigation.
The ordnance-handling personnel gave an all-clear shortly after 5:30 p.m., and trolley runs resumed soon thereafter.
