Suspected drunken driver injures Santa Ana police officer

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A suspected drunken driver made a left turn right in front of a marked Santa Ana police cruiser, and the officer escaped the ensuing crash with minor injuries, a police commander said today.

Santa Ana resident Ignacio Roldan-Peralto was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado a little after 1:20 a.m. Saturday when he made a left turn in the 100 block of North Jackson Street directly in front of a marked police car, said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Jeffrey Smith.

"The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection causing major damage to both vehicles,' Smith said. "The officer suffered minor injuries from the crash. The driver of the Chevy and his female passenger were not injured.' "Upon completing a field examination for impairment, it appears the driver of the Chevy was driving while intoxicated,' he said.

Paramedics transported the officer to an area hospital, where was listed in good condition, Smith said.

Roldan-Peralto, 54, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and was transported to the Santa Ana Police Department Jail.
