SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man suspected of driving a stolen car was arrested after trying to hide under a car at a Mission Valley auto dealership.

At about 3 a.m. Thursday, police began following a Lexus on westbound Interstate 8 in La Mesa that had been reported stolen on May 30.

When police tried to pull over the Lexus in the Mission Valley area, the car stopped in the fast lane, and two people -- the driver and a passenger -- ran across the freeway from the vehicle.

Officers pursued the two people on foot and through auto dealership lots in the 1400 block of Camino del Rio South, and they eventually tracked down the driver as he tried to hide underneath a car at a Cadillac dealership.

While the driver was arrested, officers could not locate the passenger. He was last seen running through a Mazda dealership in the area wearing a red shirt.

Two people who remained in the Lexus were detained for questioning.
