EL CAJON -- A 31-year-old man already behind bars on unrelated charges was re-arrested for allegedly bludgeoning a man to death in a homein the Flinn Springs area near El Cajon a week ago, sheriff's officials announced Thursday.

Rory Patrick Fay faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of 64-year-old Bren Fisher, sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Nelson said.

Deputies and medics responding to a reported death at a home at 9974 Bridon Rd. in Flinn Springs found Fisher dead in the mid-morning hours of Jan. 7. Nelson said Fisher's body showed "visible signs of trauma" to the upper part of the body.

A subsequent autopsy determined that he died from blunt-force trauma and had been a victim of homicide.

Authorities have not unveiled what evidence led them to suspect Fay, but Nelson said homicide detectives and members of the fugitive task force conducted an "exhaustive and thorough investigation."

Anyone with additional information on the case was asked to call the sheriff's department at 858-974-2321 or 858-565-5200.
