Things at Marinello Schools of Beauty just got ugly.

Students at the El Cajon campus were told to pack their things because the school could close at any time.

Marinello has 56 beauty schools nationwide.

“It’s very sad because many of the students are ready to graduate. All their tuition has been paid. They are graduating in two weeks,” said Ronna Magown, who gets her hair and nails done at the school.

The U.S. Department of Education cut financial aid to 23 other Marinello Schools of Beauty in California and Nevada.

The El Cajon campus was not cited.

One allegation is the schools were keeping some of the students’ financial aid money for themselves.

10News tried to talk to students or staff at the El Cajon campus.

All were afraid to speak out. One student telling us she is afraid of losing her hours.

“They don’t know what they are going to do. They are at a loss for where their lives are going to go now,” Mcgown said.

The entire Marinello school chain received more than $87 million in Pell Grants and federal loans last year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
