SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A flash flood watch was issued by the National Weather Service Saturday afternoon and was scheduled to go into effect beginning at 8 p.m. and lasting until Sunday morning.
The warning was issued for San Diego coastal areas and inland valleys after a Pacific storm was seen on weather radar screens forming off the coast, according to the NWS.
Heavy rain, lightning and cold temperatures were expected throughout San Diego County by later Saturday night..
Three storm systems were expected to hit land from the west over the next three days. Soaking rain and thunderstorms were expected to pack a punch by Saturday night, with a chance for water spouts off the coast, according to the NWS.
The stormy weather should taper off by Sunday morning, with another system expected later Sunday and early Monday.
Highs in the upper 60s were forecast for the area today, with Saturday night's lows expected to be in the upper 40s to 50s.
Rainfall totals could reach a third of an inch this weekend and cause minor urban flooding in some areas, the NWS said.
