NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV)--Southwestern College's Higher Education Center in National City was temporarily placed on lockdown Monday afternoon following a report of a person brandishing a firearm nearby.
Social media posts, like those below from Twitter user Judy Ann Negron, asking about why the campus had been placed on lockdown tipped off our 10News newsroom.

Her brother-in-law texted to her that an officer was outside his classroom door with a rifle.
School officials canceled classes for the remainder of the day at the center, which is located at 880 National City Boulevard.
10News reporter Steve Fiorina asked an officer at the scene if the suspect was in custody and was told 'no.'
However, Southwestern College has announced that National City Police have lifted the lockdown.
