VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Three men were taken into custody Wednesday morning after a chase with San Diego County sheriff's deputies in Vista.

The Sheriff's Department received calls about shots fired near Cabrillo Lane, Rose Dr., and Anza Ave. overnight Tuesday. Witnesses told deputies the shots came from a red pickup truck.

Deputies investigating the gunfire spotted a red 2009 Toyota Tacoma and tried to pull it over. The driver sped off and passengers fired on patrol cars with a shotgun and semi-automatic rifle, deputies said.

10News learned deputies did not fire back during the pursuit.

Deputies lost track of the truck but eventually found it in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Meadowlake Dr. with shell casings inside.

A witness reported seeing at least two men get out of the truck and run into an apartment. Deputies removed five people from the home but released two of them.

Three men were arrested. Ixcauatzin Morales, Jesus Garcia Lopez, and Elmer Escatel were taken to the Vista Detention Facility.
