CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Gunshots outside a Chula Vista nightclub sent people scrambling for safety overnight Thursday and left at least one person injured.
It was a chaotic scene just before 2 a.m. when a fight broke out at J Street and Broadway. A witness told 10News he saw about 10 people fighting in the street and then heard up to 12 gunshots. The shots sent cars and people scattering in all directions.
Responding Chula Vista police chased down one of the fleeing cars into National City, where it stopped the vehicle and found two men and a woman inside.
One of the men had a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a nearby hospital. His condition was not released. The other two were handcuffed and taken into custody. The charges they face and their possible role in the incident was not confirmed.
Meanwhile, officers found a handful of bullet shells at the intersection where the shooting occurred. The intersection was shut down as of 5:30 a.m.
The circumstances that prompted the gunshots were under investigation. It was not immediately clear whether more victims or suspects had been identified.
