SAN DIEGO - A woman hospitalized Tuesday after police said she shot herself at Westfield Horton Plaza mall has died.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., San Diego police confirmed that the woman, who has not been publicly identified, passed away from her injuries.
Police said officers were responding to a report of a suicidal woman at around 11:30 a.m. when they attempted to pull over an SUV linked to the report at Broadway and 4th Ave. However, the driver refused to stop and drove into the shopping center's parking garage. A woman got out of the vehicle and fled into the mall, police said.
The woman made her way to the third floor, and after a brief standoff with officers in front of the Gap store the woman shot herself.
Police said paramedics responded and performed CPR before taking her to the hospital by ambulance.
Police told 10News officers did not discharge their weapons during the standoff. They were also unsure why the woman shot herself.
No other injuries were reported.
