SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Construction crews continue to make good progress on the new Shelter Island Boat Launch Facility.
However, the Port of San Diego said the project has encountered longer delays than originally expected. Because of the delays, the launch ramp will be closed during the Fourth of July.
The delays and closures are impacting boaters, especially during the summer season.
10News spoke with San Diego resident Steve Corradetti who planned to get out on the water this weekend.
"I was hoping to do Coronado Island and just do a little bit of a tour. Unfortunately, it's not done yet. I didn't think that it would take that long." Corradetti said.
While the improvement project is underway, boaters are encouraged to use alternative boat launches.
The launch ramp is expected to reopen in late 2018.
