Security concerns linger ahead of KAABOO after shooting at Del Mar fairgrounds

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - In it's 4th year, KAABOO returns to Del Mar bringing A-list talent and record crowds to the fairgrounds this weekend.

Organizers say they expect the 3-day festival to sell out for the first time.

Jason Felts, KAABOO's Chief Marketing Officer, said they have been improving the festival every year.

"People are starting to trust the experience. They know what they’re going to get," said Felts.

But a shooting at fairgrounds ahead of an Ice Cube concert earlier this month renewed questions of security at the venue.

Felts said they will have security guards and law enforcement officers patrolling inside and outside the grounds. They will also have metal detectors and bag searches for everyone entering the concert, measures that have not been implemented at concerts after horse races.

"We feel 100% comfortable with the security measures we take," said Felts.

KAABOO Del Mar opens Thursday night for VIP ticket-holders. The main shows begin Friday and feature headliners such as Foo Fighters, Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons and Robert Plant.
