SAN YSIDRO, Calif. – A mother and her baby are safe after a pickup truck they were sleeping in was stolen early Monday morning in San Ysidro.
According to San Diego police, at about 1:30 a.m. a man broke into a 2011 Ford F-150 that was parked in front of a donut shop in the 400 block of West San Ysidro Boulevard. According to police, the child’s grandfather went into the shop and left the truck running.
The suspect reportedly drove three blocks before he realized the mother and child were in the back seat. He allegedly told them he had a gun and a knife and forced them out. The suspect then took off in the truck, police said.
Police report that a second man may have also gotten into the truck. Police believe it may have driven into Mexico. It was described as black-colored quad cab pickup with a white skeleton sticker on the back and license plate 573-17T1. The suspect was described as African American, with a brown shirt and black pants.
The mother and child were unhurt. Police are investigating.
