San Marcos party leads to stabbings, melee

Posted

Sheriff's deputies responding to a large party where two guests were stabbed in San Marcos early Saturday were met with bottles being thrown at them, leading to an urgent call for cover from surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Neighbors called dispatchers to complain about a large party and a disturbance at a house in the 1800 block of Redwing Street at 2:20 a.m., according to Sgt. Michael Arens.

Deputies were responding to a commotion in the backyard when partygoers allegedly began throwing bottles at them. Deputies from other North County patrol areas were joined by officers from the Carlsbad and Escondido Police Departments to provide cover and help break up the party, Arens said.

While deputies worked to restore order, two stabbing victims came from the backyard looking for help from the deputies. They were taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds, according to Arens.

Detectives were investigating the melee.

Two suspected San Marcos gang members, including a juvenile and 25-year- old Michael Moran, were arrested for probation violations, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the party can call the Sheriff's Department non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580- 8477.
