SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Unified School District is making preschool more affordable for families across San Diego County.

On Tuesday, the district launched the Pre-K for All program -- a new initiative that provides preschool for every child. Residents outside of the San Diego Unified District can enroll their children in the program.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said the program will give local children an edge in the real world.

"When more of our kids -- more of our San Diego kids -- get a head start on education, more of our kids can grow up and get the great jobs, high-paying jobs, here in San Diego," Faulconer said.

The program is working to provide special discounts for military families, San Diego Unified employees and for siblings.
