SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman woke up Monday morning to a man groping her in her College Area apartment, police said.

According to San Diego police, a break-in was reported at a second-floor residence of an apartment building in the 6600 block of Alvarado Road, near Sterling Verde Road and several blocks from the San Diego State campus.

A woman contacted police and informed them that an unknown man was in her roommate’s room and touching her.

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested 36-year-old Gary Thompson in connection with the incident.

Thompson apparently sat on the bed and waited for police to get there and arrest him.

Police said Thompson was booked into jail on charges of burglary and attempted sexual assault.

The woman and her three roommates said they did not know the suspect and were unsure how he was able to enter their apartment.
