SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police investigating a report of domestic violence found themselves calling for firefighters in Mira Mesa Tuesday.

Officers responded to a domestic violence call at 10513 Caminito Obra about 10:30 a.m. A woman said her boyfriend had physically abused her and locked himself in a storage shed on the property.

A San Diego Police lieutenant told 10News the officers smelled gas and called the fire department.

The man in the home had locked himself inside the shed and used a butane lighter to cause a gas line explosion, police said. After the blast, the man came out of the shed.

The man suffered injuries and was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center. SDG&E is on the scene.
