SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 23-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach after breaking into a couple's Fairmont Village home late Saturday night, San Diego police said.

The homeowners were inside their residence located on the 4600 block of Dwight Street at around 11:15 p.m. when they heard someone pounding on their front door, a San Diego Police Department spokesperson said.

``The suspect broke a window, reached in and opened the front door," said Ofc. Robert Heims. ``He entered the house and confronted the residents. The male victim stabbed the suspect in the stomach and then ran out of the house. The suspect chased the victim outside."

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Gustavo Fernandez, continued to chase the homeowner until police arrived and took him into custody.

Fernandez was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police did not release further details.
