SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two San Diegans are among those residents in the southeastern part of the country who are bracing for Hurricane Florence to hit.

Husband and wife, John and Michele Earnest, say after seeing the devastation of previous storms they decided to help Hurricane Florence storm victims.

“It’s certainly exciting but since we haven’t done this before, we’re moving into the area of the unknown,” says John Earnest.

The two are currently waiting out the storm in North Carolina.

Over the past few months, the couple has been training with the American Red Cross. They will be tasked with offering relief services to those in need.

“We’ve been trained hands-on,” says Michele Earnest.

The American Red Cross has sent over 1,500 people to the southeast. At least 15 volunteers have arrived from San Diego to help.
