SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--The San Diego County Sheriff's Department identified Thursday the two deputies involved in a use of force death investigation in Lemon Grove.
Deputies Jeffrey Perine and Corporal Armin Vianzon answered calls from residents of a townhome complex at 8186 Lemon Grove Way on May 20. Callers reported that a man was jumping fences into backyards and trying to gain entry into the townhomes. The callers said the man was acting as if he were under the influence of drugs.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the deputies arrived and ordered the man to lie on the ground, but he refused. Both deputies deployed their department-issued Tasers, striking the man. He went to the ground and attempted to stand again. Deputies deployed Tasers again and wrestled the man into submission. They placed him in handcuffs and called for paramedics to respond due to the use of Tasers. The Sheriff's Department said the man was alert and continued to struggle with deputies until he was being treated by paramedics and became unresponsive. Paramedics administered CPR on the way to the hospital, but the man died.
The man was identified as 54-year-old Mark Roshawn Adkins of Lemon Grove.
