LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Gateway co-founder Ted Waitt is stepping down from the board of the Salk Institute, the research group said Friday.
Salk Institute spokesman Chris Emery said Waitt had changes in his personal obligations and chose to eliminate his external board service at Salk and two other non-profits.
Waitt's departure comes less than two months after two female scientists sued the Salk Institute, claiming gender discrimination.

Waitt addressed the issue in his departure letter to trustees, writing "While saddened by these events, I feel compelled to say directly and unequivocally that the timing of this move is in no way related; this decision is entirely personal in nature."
The change will take effect in November, said Emery.
