RANCHO PENASQUITOS, Calif. – A man says a hit-and-run driver caused him to lose control of his Toyota Prius, sending it rolling down a hill and causing damage to several cars in Rancho Penasquitos  overnight Monday.

The collision occurred before 2:30 a.m. in the the 9100 block of Westvale Road. The driver told San Diego police he was turning left onto Westvale when he was rear-ended, causing him to pass out for a few seconds. When he came to, he noticed the suspect vehicle leaving the scene.

He told police he mistakenly thought he had put his car into park at that point, but instead, it began rolling down a hill and through a stop sign. It damaged mailboxes and several park cars before stopping on the curb. The driver was not hurt.

San Diego police are still searching for the car reportedly responsible for the hit-and-run.
