SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — The U.S. Border Patrol seized a ton of marijuana worth an estimated $1.2 million from an abandoned vessel at Calafia State Beach on Monday afternoon.

Approximately 2,400 pounds of the narcotic was found stashed inside 82 cellophane-wrapped black plastic bags underneath the bow of a 25-foot Bayliner at around 3:00 p.m.

The recreational vehicle was in the process of washing ashore when California State Park rangers encountered it and notified Border Patrol agents.

No people were on the boat or in the surrounding area.
