SAN DIEGO – Authorities are searching for the occupants of a car that fired at an SUV during a road rage incident on Interstate 805 in the City Heights area late Monday night.
The shooting took place at around 10:30 p.m. on northbound I-805 near Home Avenue. The driver of the SUV told California Highway Patrol that the incident was prompted when he honked at a dark-colored hatchback carrying three men due to a lane dispute.
According to CHP, the hatchback began following the SUV and then pulled up alongside it. The SUV’s driver then noticed a red laser emitting from a gun, as a passenger in the hatchback opened fire on his vehicle. One bullet struck the driver’s side as the suspect car then sped away.
The driver pulled into a church parking lot off Murray Ridge Road and called 911. He was not injured.
CHP is investigating. There was no immediate description of the suspects.
