NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - A reward of up $5,000 was offered Thursday for information that leads to the arrest of whoever shot and killed a young man and wounded his teenage companion in National City last fall.
Juan Carlos Munoz, 18, and a 17-year-old friend were shot while sitting in a car stopped near the intersection of East 16th and Prospect streets on the night of Oct. 11, according to National City police and Crime Stoppers. Authorities said a passenger in a Nissan Altima that pulled up alongside them got out, approached Munoz, asked where they were from then fired five gunshots into the vehicle.
Munoz was struck four times and died at the scene, authorities said. His friend sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh and recovered.
Witnesses described the gunman as a Hispanic man in his 20s with a light complexion, a husky build and a shaved head. The suspect was last seen in an early to late 2000 Nissan Altima sedan that headed east on East 16th Street, authorities said.
