A Grossmont College student says she got a disheartening surprise when her missing bag appeared outside her home.
After a recent class, Kirsten Lawrence finished buckling in her baby in her SUV and forgot her bag on the ground.
She didn't realize it until the evening. Hours later, it showed up outside her Lakeside home. Her laptop and books were inside, but her cellphone and wallet were missing.
Surveillance images show a woman going a shopping spree with Lawrence's card at a local Target and Walmart to the tune of $900. The phone was later found tossed at the campus.
As for why the bag was delivered, Lawrence wonders if it's a way of sending a message: Don't press for charges.
"They may be telling me that they know where I live," said Lawrence.
That hasn't stopped Lawrence from trying to track down the thief. She filed a report with deputies and posted details on the East County Emergency Updates Facebook page.
"This person needs to be caught. They were definitely preying on an opportunity," said Lawrence.
