Firefighters act fast, put out kitchen fire in about 10 minutes

Posted

It took firefighters about ten minutes to put out a kitchen fire in a Clairemont house Sunday afternoon, and the family dog made it out safely.

The fire broke out at about 1:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of Mt. Highpine Place, where firefighters reported seeing smoke coming out of the window, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Spokesman Lee Swanson.

Quick work by firefighters limited the fire to the kitchen and some attic extension, Swanson said.

The family was not home at the time, they had just left and were not sure if they had turned off the stove, Swanson said.

Investigators were called to the house to determine the cause of the fire and assess the amount of damage.
