SAN DIEGO -- A suspected drunk driver attempting to escape police barreled into a car in the Valencia Park neighborhood of San Diego Monday night, injuring three people.
The incident began at 10:16 p.m. when San Diego police attempted to pull over an Acura that was driving erratically. According to police, the driver refused to stop and a chase ensued. At the intersection of Imperial Avenue and 53rd Street, the Acura collided into a Honda sedan carrying three people, a 20-year-old driver and two passengers, a 19-year-old man and his 17-year-old sister. The impact careened the Honda into several parked cars.
All three occupants were taken to nearby hospitals. Their injuries were not considered serious.
The Acura’s driver, a 32-year-old man, was also transported to a hospital, before being arrested. Officers found methamphetamines in his car, police said. He faces charges of felony evading, reckless driving, DUI causing injury and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
No names were released. The investigation is ongoing.
