The Poway Unified School District announced Monday that Superintendent John Collins was placed on paid administrative leave pending completion of an internal audit requested by the Board of Education.
Mel Robertson, the PUSD's associate superintendent of learning support services, was named interim superintendent. Robertson has previously filled the role on an interim basis.
No official reason was given for the action. However, some news reports said Collins had expressed interest in leaving his position, and that the board was considering buying out a contract that expires on June 30 next year.
