Parents are being warned of a possible kidnapping attempt that occurred Tuesday afternoon at an Encinitas elementary school.

According to Encinitas Union School District officials, a woman approached a student after school was over at Park Dale Lane Elementary School and told the student: "Your mom told me to pick you up."

The student, who did not know the woman, ran away. The student's family filed a report with the sheriff's department.

The sheriff's department said Tuesday there is currently no evidence of an attempted kidnapping:

"The Sheriff's Department is investigating this incident. At this time, there is no evidence an attempted kidnapping took place. Out of an abundance of caution, Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station will be conducting additional patrols in and around the school area. If the public sees anything suspicious, call the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200."

The woman was described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, white with a pale complexion and straight brown hair. She was wearing a dress at the time of the incident.

District officials said the school notified parents of the incident.

The school district is working with the sheriff's department in the investigation.
