Police save woman dangling off state Route 163 overpass

SAN DIEGO -- A distraught woman spotted dangling off a freeway overpass was rescued by San Diego police officers early Thursday morning.

The incident began around 3:30 a.m. and was centered at state Route 163 and Washington Street in the Hillcrest area. 

Responding officers tied some sort of strap to the woman to keep her in position while they waited for firefighters to arrive. Meanwhile, California Highway Patrol officers were below directing traffic. TRAFFIC MAP

After about 45 minutes, the woman was pulled from the edge of the overpass. She was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
