San Diego police are investigating a suspicious death at a home in the 1600 block of Sandy Shore St. in Paradise Hills, police confirmed Saturday.

Around 6 a.m. Saturday, someone called police to report an unconscious woman in her mid-40s outside of the residence, police said.

They reported that the woman was on the ground having difficulty breathing.

Medics and police arrived and the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police said her condition worsened while at the hospital and she died several hours later.

Doctors observed some suspicious markings on her upper body that were possibly the result of a traumatic injury, according to police.

It is unknown if the marks were linked to the woman's death, but a homicide team was called out to investigate the incident.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The woman's identity is known, but won't be released until her family is notified.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
