ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (KGTV) - Albuquerque Police said a man who tried to carjack three football players picked the wrong victims.

The players said Angelo Martinez confronted them near their car as they were leaving practice, according to KOAT.

Martinez asked for a ride and the players agreed, eventually pulling over at a home.

Police said Martinez flashed a gun and demanded the players get out of the car.  Martinez held the men at gunpoint but fumbled the weapon and one of the players punched him, police said.

The other two players began beating Martinez, said officials.

Police arrived and arrested Martinez.  They said he had a knife but his gun was fake.

Officers said Martinez was carrying a note which read, "Give me the keys to your wip and a nobody get heart. I know where you live so don't make me kill."
