Police Saturday released the names of the officers involved in the shooting of a 30-year-old man following a short vehicle pursuit into the Encanto neighborhood.
The officers were identified as 5-year veteran Ryan Cameron, 4 1/2-year veteran David Serrano, 4-year veteran Trevor Sterling and 2-year Officer Shawn Boggeman, San Diego police Lt. Manny Del Toro.

The incident happened Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. when 30-year-old Thongsoune Vilaysane led police on a short pursuit in a stolen silver Acura and crashed into a parked car in the 100 block of Pagel Place, Del Toro said. Vilaysane refused officers' commands to shut off the car and get out and then drove toward the officers.
"In defense of their lives, four officers fired multiple rounds at Vilaysane to stop the threat of the vehicle coming towards them," Del Toro said. "Vilaysane was struck several times and died at the scene."
