SAN DIEGO - A motorcyclist was killed Saturday morning after police say the driver ran a red light and was broadsided by a truck that was trying to make a turn.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Morena Boulevard and Avati Drive. Here is the information from police:
A 55-year-old male was riding his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on 4000 Moreno Boulevard approaching the intersection of Moreno Boulevard and Avati Drive. A 61-year-old male driving a 2004 Chevy truck was stopped at a red light facing west on the 4000 block of Avati Drive. The traffic signal turned green and the truck started to make a left turn through the intersection. The motorcyclist rode through the red light and hit the back of the truck. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. At the hospital the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased. Traffic Division is investigating.
The intersection was immediately shut down in all directions and traffic was diverted through a nearby parking lot.
