A predator may be on the prowl in the South Bay.
A man in a white, windowless van tried to snatch an 8-year-old boy at Greg Rogers Elementary School in Chula Vista Tuesday afternoon as school let out, police said.
The boy told police the man told him that his mother sent him to pick the boy up.
The boy walked to the school office, but did not tell anyone what happened, police said.
That night, the boy told his grandmother who alerted authorities, police said.
The school sent a letter home to parents, warning them.
The child described the man as a dark-skinned black male with a bald head and a "big beard," police said.
Police said he was wearing a red shirt and black pants.
