Police investigate possible sexual assault at University City High School

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV)--A possible rape investigation by San Diego Police Department  is underway, after a report of a sexual assault between two students at University City High School. 

San Diego Police confirmed they did investigate "an incident that occurred at University City High School" and it has submitted the case to the District Attorney's office for review. 

A San Diego Unified School District representative confirmed to 10News Wednesday afternoon that a "serious incident was reported to have occurred off the main campus between two UC High School students."

An anonymous news tip stated a female student was sexually assaulted by a male student on the school campus this week during school. San Diego Unified has not confirmed this information. 

The full statement from Shari Winet of San Diego Unified reads: 

"Student safety is out highest priority. Besides monitoring all of our schools, we have a mixture of School Police and security officers on our sites, complimented by procedures to ensure a safe and secure learning environment. We are aware that a serious incident was reported to have occurred off the main campus between two UC High School students. San Diego Police is leading the investigation, with support from San Diego Unified School Police. Please contact San Diego Police for more information."
