SAN DIEGO -- Police are searching for two men who prompted a chase through San Diego’s University City neighborhood early Friday morning.

According to San Diego police, the incident began just before 3 a.m., in the area of Genesee Avenue and Radcliffe Lane, when a witness called 911 to report seeing two men in the street, one of whom had a gun. The men reportedly got into a Lexus SUV and sped off as officers were arriving.

Officers tried to pull the SUV over, but the driver refused to stop and a high-speed chase ensued.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle at an apartment complex at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Genesee Avenue and fled on foot. Police scoured the area but were unable to locate them.

Officers found bullets and a second license plate in the abandoned car. The investigation is ongoing.
