An armed man was shot and killed by police officers at an Escondido home Friday morning.

The shooting happened at a home in the 300 block of James Street, according to Escondido police.

Police told 10News that officers responded to a call just after 7 a.m. regarding a deceased elderly woman inside a house.

The woman was identified as 70-year-old Elizabeth "Beth" Seitz by police. Seitz's death was not considered suspicious, police said.

When officers arrived, they were confronted by a man, identified later as 40-year-old Damon Seitz, armed with a gun. The two were mother and son, and Damon also lived in the home, according to police.

Police said Seitz threatened officers with his weapon, prompting officers to open fire.

Seitz was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

No other details were provided.

Officers have blocked off a section in the 300 block of James Street as part of the shooting investigation.

Nearby Orange Glen Elementary School is not affected by the police activity.
